Under the title ‘Zoology — science and practice,’ the Institute of Zoology shows some of its treasures in the just opened exhibition at the central foyer of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The institute was established in 1947 after the unification of the Zoology and Entomology Departments of the former Royal Institutes of Natural Sciences. Currently it consists of five departments: Taxonomy, faunology and zoogeography, Hydrobiology, Biology and ecology of terrestrial animals, Experimental zoology, and Protozoology. The research activities comprise studies of the biodiversity in Bulgaria, analysis of the anthropogenic influence upon the animals and their populations, studies on the problems of the animal evolution.

The exposition presents posters, scientific publications, and natural history collections, especially butterflies, beetles, dragonflies.
