The species was described in 1872 by Erschoff (Erschoff, N. G., [1872]: Diagnoses de quelques espèces nouvelles des Lépidoptères appartenant à la faune de la Russie Asiatique. — Horae Soc. ent. ross. 8 (4): 315) from ‘... les environs du fleuve Oussuri.’ Occurs in mixed mountain forests of NE China, Ussuri Region, Kuril Islands, N Korea, Japan. The imago flies in April — May. The reported larval host plant is Asarum sieboldii.
