Phil Ackery has worked at the Natural History Museum since he left school in 1965. He has been associated with the butterfly collections since 1969, as collection manager since 1991. Past research interests have centred upon butterfly classification and butterfly hostplant associations, and more recently upon methods of pest eradication in natural history collections, and historical aspects of collections. Author of several books (Milkweed Butterflies (1984) [with R. I. Vane-Wright]; Carcasson’s African butterflies (1995) [with C. R. Smith & R. I. Vane-Wright]) and numerous scientific articles.
Campbell Smith [left] has worked at the Entomology Department since 1984. Author of ‘Carcasson’s African butterflies — an annotated catalogue of the Papilionoidea and Hesperoidea of the Afrotropical Region’ (1995) [with Phil R. Ackery & Richard I. Vane-Wright] and many scientific articles.
W. J. (John) Tennent [right] is an experienced field lepidopterist who travelled much of the world during his 23 years in the British Army. He was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1981 for work in Central America. Author of ‘The Butterflies of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia’ (1996); ‘Butterflies of the Solomon Islands: systematics and biogeography’ (2002) and many articles. |
